Miyazaki Area Guide | Sakatani Rice Terrace and Waterfall
Rural Miyazaki
Sakamoto (Sakataniko, Sakatani) Rice Terrace
Along route 222 from Nichinan to Miyakonojo you will come across a road station just passed the Nichinan Dam called Michi No Eki Sakataniko. These kind of road stations are all over Japan. A great place to stop for snacks and local fresh produce.
One of the main sites here is the Sakatmoto Rice Terraces located just a short drive up a windy road opposite the station. Regarded as one of the top 100 best rice terraces in Japan. Visitors can park their car in one of the 3 carparks and are free to walk around the little paths for photo opportunities. There is also a viewing platform to get the best angle and take in the magnificent view.
Sakatani Waterfall (小布瀬の滝)
A couple minutes drive up the road from Sakataniko road station you will come across a campsite on the left and an arch bridge on the right. You must take a left turn down a little road until you come to a carpark. From the carpark its only a 3 minute walk to the waterfall. Crossing a beautiful old bridge covered in moss you will start to hear the power of the waterfall as it crashes down from the cliff top.
