Hyuga is located on the east coast of Kyushu, which is the southernmost of Japan's four main islands. Here are the directions from Tokyo to Hyuga:
By air: The easiest way to get to Hyuga from Tokyo is to fly to Miyazaki Airport, which is located about 40 kilometers north of Hyuga. There are several daily flights from Tokyo's Haneda Airport to Miyazaki Airport, and the flight takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes.
By train: You can also take the Shinkansen (bullet train) from Tokyo to Shin-Osaka Station, and then transfer to the Kyushu Shinkansen to Kumamoto Station. From there, you can take the Limited Express train to Hyuga Station, which takes about 3 hours and 30 minutes.

While many of the basic surfing rules apply in Hyuga, there are a few specific rules to be aware of when surfing in this area:
Respect the local surf culture: Hyuga has a strong surf culture and locals take their waves seriously. Respect their right of way and don't drop in on their waves.
Check the tides: The tides in Hyuga can be extreme, so it's important to check them before heading out to surf. Low tide can expose rocks and make certain spots dangerous, while high tide can create strong currents.
Mind the jetty: Hyuga's main surf spot is located near a jetty, which can create tricky currents and dangerous conditions. Be aware of the jetty's location and its effect on the waves.
Be aware of marine life: Hyuga is known for its abundance of marine life, including sharks and jellyfish. Check local reports and be aware of any potential hazards before paddling out.
Respect the environment: Hyuga's natural beauty is part of what makes it such a great surf destination. Respect the environment by avoiding littering, staying on designated paths, and leaving things as you found them.
Whether you're an experienced surfer or just looking to try something new, Hyuga has plenty to offer for an unforgettable surfing adventure.
